Mcclellan Peak Lookout Built early 1930s by USFS, transferred to the Bureau of Land Management in 1963, last staffed 1970, destroyed 1971. For some reason it is still shown on FS maps as a lookout, but 2 separate reports exist of it having been removed in 1971. It is assumed that the maps are likely incorrect.

Elevation 7,191'. This lookout was re-built in 1981, and it is a 9'x9' solar powered cabin with a wooden catwalk. Yellow Peak is situated in Northwestern Nevada, and its extensive views protect the sage, grasslands, and juniper stands of the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge and Surprise Resource Area, as well as the Eastern slopes of the Warner Mountain Range. This lookout is one of only two fire detection structures in Nevada, both of which are operated by the United States Bureau of Land Management. Yellow Peak is staffed full time each summer by lookouts from the Surprise Valley Field Office in Cedarville, California.
