Notes

  • This is currently an active state tower
  • Prior to the tower being built, the state began using this site as a lookout location from the ground as it was a clear grassy pasture with a good view. This activity occured from 1914 through 1917.
  • In 1918, the original 48 FT tower with stairs is constructed
  • In 1938, this tower is destroyed in the great hurricane of 1938
  • In 1939, a new 60 FT tower supplied by the US Forest Service is erected.
  • In 1951, a new road to the tower is consructed
  • In 1966, a new cab and a chain link fence are built
